A Perfume Gift Without the Guesswork

Choosing a perfume gift when you do not know their favourite scent? Start with their habits, explore the options and leave room for personal taste.

01

Start with the person

A perfume gift can feel wonderfully personal. It also asks you to choose something that someone else will wear on their skin. If you do not know their favourite scent, a little observation is more useful than a bestseller list.

Do they wear one fragrance every day, or change with the occasion? Do they enjoy exploring small independent brands? Would they rather receive a familiar favourite than a surprise? These habits tell you how much room there is for discovery.

If you can, ask a light question about a scent they already enjoy. A name or a photograph of a bottle gives you a more useful starting point than assumptions based on age, gender or clothing.

02

Use scent families as clues

Look for a broad direction rather than trying to reproduce an entire perfume. Fresh citrus, soft florals, warm spice and woods are useful ways to begin a conversation. They are not promises that a particular fragrance will suit someone.

Avoid choosing only from what you like on yourself. A fragrance can develop differently through the day, and personal associations matter as much as the list of notes. If they mention a note they dislike, take it seriously rather than hoping a popular bottle will change their mind.

03

Choose the right kind of discovery

A discovery set gives someone several finished fragrances to try. It suits a person who likes comparing individual perfumes before committing to a bottle. Check sample sizes and whether a full-size purchase is included; arrangements differ between brands.

A refill of their existing favourite offers familiarity. A gift card leaves the final choice with them. A fragrance blending experience offers something else: the pleasure of changing the balance and making a scent feel more personal.

There is no single format that removes every risk. If fragrance gives the recipient discomfort, or they prefer to avoid scented products, choose a different kind of gift.

04

Where ININUM fits

ININUM is for someone who enjoys discovering what they like. Three fragrance PODs sit inside one device, and the app lets the wearer adjust their proportions, try a blend and save a favourite.

That means you can give a starting point without deciding on one fixed blend for them. It does not mean every possible fragrance is inside the device: their choices still begin with the PODs they have.

Before choosing it as a gift, consider whether they enjoy using an app and are comfortable charging a device. Someone who wants a familiar bottle with no setup may prefer a simpler ritual.

05

Make the handover thoughtful

Keep the product sealed until it is theirs to open. Add a personal note about why you chose an experience they can explore, rather than a claim that you have found their perfect scent.

Check current delivery information and the returns policy before ordering, especially the conditions for opened fragrance. If the occasion is close, confirm timing instead of assuming that a dispatch date is an arrival date.

The most thoughtful part of a fragrance gift is the attention behind it. Give them the freedom to decide what feels like them.
